Privacy policy

The ArcoTour app (version 1.0, Rome) and this website. App policy updated on 11 October 2026.

Draft under review. This page will be completed with the publisher’s details and, for the legal parts, checked by a lawyer before launch.

The app

In short

ArcoTour has no accounts, no ads and no analytics or tracking tools.

Your location stays on your phone: we do not receive it, we do not save it and we do not send it to anyone.

The app uses the internet for only two things: downloading maps from OpenStreetMap and, if you buy a pass, talking to Apple’s App Store. The stories, the texts and the photos are inside the app.

Who we are

Data controller: Carmelo Albanese, Terranova Sappo Minulio (RC), Italia.

For any question about privacy, write to supporto.arcotour@gmail.com.

Your location

The app uses your phone’s location for three things: knowing when you reach a stop on the tour so the story can start, showing you the public transport stops nearby, and guiding you on foot to a stop.

It only uses it while a tour, the “Transport” tab or the “Take me there” feature is in use, and it keeps going with the screen off or the app in the background, so the story starts even when your phone is in your pocket. While it does, iOS shows an indicator.

Your location is processed only on your phone: it is not saved, it does not reach us and it is not shared with anyone.

You can refuse or withdraw the permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → ArcoTour. Without location the app still works, but the stories do not start by themselves.

Maps

The maps come from OpenStreetMap. To show them, the app downloads small map tiles from tile.openstreetmap.org.

Those servers see your phone’s IP address and which tiles you ask for, that is, the area of the map you are looking at (which may include where you are). They do not receive your name or your GPS location.

How OpenStreetMap handles this data is explained in its own policy: osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

The app keeps a copy of the tiles you have already seen on your phone, so you can see them again without internet.

Purchases

The Rome passes are bought through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment: we neither see nor keep your card number or any other payment data. How Apple handles your data is explained in its own policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.

The app receives the purchase confirmation from Apple and keeps on your phone only which passes you have and until when they are valid, to unlock the content.

What stays on your phone

The language you chose, the state of your passes and a temporary copy of the map tiles. Nothing else.

If you remove the app from your phone, all of this is deleted.

What we do not do

There is no account to create. There are no ads. We do not use analytics, statistics or tracking tools, nor third-party libraries that collect data about how you use the app.

We do not sell or hand over data, because we do not have any. The typefaces are inside the app: they are not downloaded from outside services.

Your rights

Because we do not collect personal data about you, we have nothing to show you, correct or delete. For the data that Apple and OpenStreetMap handle on their own behalf, their own policies apply.

If you think your data has been handled incorrectly you can write to us at supporto.arcotour@gmail.com and you can contact the data protection authority in your country (in Italy, the Garante: garanteprivacy.it).

Changes

If in the future the app uses data in a different way (for example with an account or with downloadable maps), we will update this page and the date below, and we will say so in the app before we start.
